Yukata Robe

Yukata is a casual version of kimono. It is a robe usuallly made of cotton fabric, wrapped around the body and fastened with a sash. It means bathing clothes, and were worn by noble ladies after they bathed, functioning as a quick way to cover the body and to absorb remaining moisture.

Much easier to wear than kimono, recently yukata has also become a way of dressing for summer festival and watching fireworks especially among young people. Increasingly fashionable designs have surfaced to a degree that it is sometimes difficult to an untrained eye to distinguish a yukata from a kimono.

Staying at a Ryokan (Japanese style hotel), especially one in an onsen (hot spring) town, is a recommended way of getting the yukata experience. Most ryokan provide yukata with their own design and logo to their guests to be worn during their stay inside the ryokan and for walks out on the streets. Because of that, onsen town has its own unique relaxed atmasphere. (fun fact: I used to wrok part time at a ryokan when I was a college student at a gift shop. Guests were usually from outside my prefecture having a mini vacation)

Yoko Beverly Hills offer numbers of yukata fabric bolts under Cotton Bolts category. Maybe give it a try to sew yourself a yukata as your own bathing clothes (bathrobe)?
