I am Naomi, owner of Yoko Beverly Hills. I was born and raised in a small town near Kyoto, the heart of cultural Japan. Growing up, I have fond memories of dressing up in my Obaachan’s kimono robes. Now a single mom living in Los Angeles with my young teenage son and our rescue cat.

Fewer Japanese wear kimonos these days, but the kimono industry is still well alive. Weaving silks, wools, cottons and hemp for kimono is still a vibrant industry, often done by artisans who have continued in their family’s footsteps utilizing 1300 years of techniques to spin, weave and dye fabrics. Bolts are usually 14 inch wide and 11 to 13 yard long.

My vendors are closely affiliated with the kimono fabric supply trade and are able to source endless bolts of unused but retired fabrics as well as vintage kimono robes which we send to have them deconstructed and ironed by highly experienced Japanese women. I am pleased (and very proud) to be able to share them with you at good prices compared to their original values. I have received some bolts that were initially tagged at well over $1000 for one bolt. They are all one-of-a kind, some are traditional weaves and motifs and others are more contemporary. Most are pristine but occasionally they may have small stains and imperfections. I will point them out in my photos as I see them.

Please visit Yoko Beverly Hills frequently as the selection is forever changing. Think outside the box when it comes upcycling these magnificent fabrics to give them to their full potential!
